Last Spring, Richard was honored with the 2011 Alumni of the Year Award from the American Association of Community Colleges. In his words, "It was the proudest moment of my professional life". The three other honorees that night were;
Rosaria Haugland; Elva Morales; and President and CEO of AT&T Mobility, Ralph de la Vega. The festivities were held at the Riverfront Hilton in New Orleans, LA. ....." I was in awe the first time I got the chance to work with Richard Leigh. I put him right up there with the master songwrtiter's such as Harlan Howard, Hal David, Burt Bacharach, Jimmy Webb, Guy Clark to name a few. He dedicated his life to songwriting as well as protecting the rights of songwriters. He is also a wonderful entertainer who adds a touch of class and sophistication to any occasion with his quick sense of humor and compelling storytelling. I feel like he is long overdue and deserving of more than just my simple gratitude for writing career breaking hit songs for me like "Only Here For A Little While", and co-writing with me "Somewhere In My Broken Heart". I decided to record a collection of his latest work including two of his classics, as a way to say thank you. Thank you Richard, for the lives you've touched and for your loyal friendship. Some call him "THE KING OF CRY" down in Texas, some have even nicknamed him "HANK SINATRA", but no matter what you mau call him, Richard Leigh is a name to be remembered for his wonderful music.
